Promoting French language and culture for over 100 years

Welcome to the Alliance Française de Buffalo!

The Alliance Française de Buffalo (AFB), incorporated as Cercle Culturel de Langue Française de Buffalo, Inc. is a non-profit, non-political cultural and educational organization whose members are a diverse group sharing common interests in French language and others aspects of French culture, from art to architecture, cooking to fashion, books to films.

The AFB is unique in the Buffalo area; neither an arts organization nor an ethnic group, not a social club or an educational association, but having some attributes of all these. It sponsors plays, lectures, films and concerts in both French and English which are open to the public. By offering the rare opportunity for the Buffalo public to see professional theater in French, it is an enriching component to Western New York's cultural resources.

Founded in 1903 as Alliance Française de Buffalo. It can be traced later under the name of "Les Amis de La France" in 1914, and in the 1970, as the Cercle Culturel de Langue Française de Buffalo (Buffalo French Cultural Circle). The Cercle/Alliance was incorporated in 1986 by the State of New York as a not-for-profit corporation. Contributions are tax-deductible.

It offers also social gatherings, including a holiday Dinner in December, usually with a French menu and an annual celebration of the French national holiday on or near July 14th.

Other services to members are French conversational classes at all levels, informal discussion groups, a playgroup for young children and their parents. The organization also encourages the teaching of French in the area schools, and provides recognition to outstanding students.
