Play Pétanque with us!

Pétanque (pronounced PAY-TONK) is a popular French  game whose goal is to throw a metal ball (a boule, pronounced BULL) as close as possible to a smaller wooden target ball (a cochonnet, pronounced KO-SHOW-NAY).

The game is played on dirt, sand or thin gravel and players are required to keep both their feet on the ground when they play.
The first player starts a round (une mène ) by throwing the cochonnet  about 10 feet away, then throws his first boule. The other team follows, trying to get their first boule closer to the cochonnet. They will continue doing so until their boule is closer to the cochonnet than the other team's best-placed boule
At the end of each round of play, one team will score as many points as it has boules closer to the cochonnet than the best-placed boule of the opposite team. The first team to reach thirteen points wins.

We play when the weather is nice, on Sundays, at 11 AM, in Delaware Park by the Rumsey Shelter.
