Welcome to the Alliance Française de Buffalo and to Western New York. Buffalo, the second largest city in New York State, hosts the Niagara Falls - often touted as the eighth natural wonder of the world, in its own backyard; and is a short two-hour drive from cosmopolitan Toronto. Buffalo won in 2001 the competition "City with a heart" (sponsored by USA Today) which gave the characteristic of being the most friendly city in the USA.

Buffalo's rich history, which dates back to the 18th century, includes a French presence, dating back to the same century. However, it is only during the 19th and 20th centuries that substantial numbers of French immigrants began arriving in our region and establishing commercial, religious, and cultural institutions.

Today, the Alliance Française de Buffalo appeals to both a French community longing to stay connected to its French culture and heritage and to individuals wishing to learn the French language and experience French culture. It also facilitates exchanges between American schools, professionals and trades and their French counterparts.

          

Bienvenue à l'Alliance Française de Buffalo ! Deuxième ville de l’État de New York et d’une grande richesse culturelle et artistique, Buffalo est à proximité des chutes du Niagara - souvent appelées la huitième merveille du monde - et à peine à deux heures de la ville cosmopolite de Toronto. Buffalo a gagné en 2001 le concours « City with a heart, Ville avec un cœur » (organisé par USA Today) et a le rare privilège d'avoir été nommée la ville la plus amicale des États-Unis.

L’histoire multiculturelle de la ville de Buffalo comprend une présence française qui remonte au 18e siècle. Cependant, c'est seulement au cours des 19e et 20e siècles qu'un nombre important d'immigrants français ont commencé à arriver dans notre région et ont établi des institutions commerciales, religieuses et culturelles.

Aujourd'hui, l'Alliance Française de Buffalo attire à la fois la communauté française expatriée et la communauté francophone ; elle s'efforce de maintenir des liens étroits avec sa culture et son patrimoine et offre aussi des cours pour les personnes souhaitant apprendre la langue française et mieux connaître la culture française. Elle facilite également des échanges sur le plan scolaire, professionnel et commercial avec des organismes français.
