Our two French teachers, Paige Melin and Kaitlyn Deutschman, will lead two weeks of children’s French language summer programming for children aged 4 to 10 to learn and practice French through fun activities centered around exciting themes. You can register for one or both weeks!

Children will need to bring/wear the following every day: sneakers, hat, sun screen, change of clothes, water bottle, lunch in a cooler with ice pack, 2 snacks.

Cost per week for Members:

FULL DAY $140 1st child / $126 each additional sibling

HALF DAY $70 1st child / $63 each additional sibling

Not a member? The cost for two children without membership is $314 per program. Family membership is only $50/year, which brings the cost for family membership + two children to $316 for each program. WEEK 1 : “Les Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques

from July 15 to 19, 2024

Time: 9AM – 4PM, Monday-Friday | Friday from 4PM to 5PM, families are invited in the Auditorium to a showcase of the children’s work!

Capacity: 20 children

Location: Harlem Road Community Center, 4255 Harlem Rd, Amherst, NY 14226, Community Room 1

Theme: This week will transmit to children the values ​​of aid, sharing, cohesion, courage, and self-esteem, and will promote team spirit and respect for rules. Children will study the history and rules of the Olympic Games in French, and will practice physical, cultural and manual activities, such as cooperation games, discovery of the flags of the different countries at the Opening Ceremony, or making the Olympic rings.

Activities include (subject to change):

- Monday or Thursday: 1hr soccer practice & game with a native French speaker;

- Tuesday: 1 hr presentation about the different Olympics skating disciplines & yoga session with a French Canadian Olympian;

- Wednesday afternoon: field trip to the Buffalo History Museum (including 1 hr picnic, 1 ½ hr guided tour of the “Icons: The Makers and Moments of Buffalo Sports” exhibit & others, and 1hr discovery of the Japanese Garden and cherry blossoms and discussion of Japanese sports and the Tokyo 1964 and 2020 Summer Olympics with a native French speaker) – pick up at the Buffalo History Museum at 4PM;

- Friday 4-5PM: showcase of the children’s work in the Auditorium (songs practiced during the week, small “Olympic medal” ceremony, & exhibition of the children’s crafts and projects);

- But also: outdoor lunches; ice cream outings; Olympics themed stories, videos and crafts; playground breaks; cooperation games & other sports on the field.
