Evelyne Harris President
Originally from Paris, France and a longtime member of the Alliance, Evelyne has been in banking for over 40 years and is currently a Compliance analyst for M&T Bank. She lives on Grand Island with her husband and is the mother of two sons and grandmother of two little girls.

Stephan Gamard First Vice President
Stephan is a French native originally from Strasbourg who moved to Buffalo in 1997 to pursue a Masters and PhD in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Buffalo. After one year, he moved to Sweeden to earn a second PhD. He returned to Western New York and is currently employed as Research and Development Manager by Praxair in Tonawanda. He lives in Kenmore with his wife Susan and their son Tristan. They have been regular members of the Alliance Française playgroup since Tristan was a baby. Stephan is an avid sailor, having sailed in California, on the North Sea and the Great Lakes. He spends his summers with his family on Lake Ontario aboard their sailboat, "Le Petit Requin."

Kathryn Missert Second Vice President
Kathryn is a Buffalo native who received her BA degree in French at Buffalo State College. She has been an elementary French teacher (K-8) in Buffalo since 1987. Interest in her own French heritage brought her to the ancestral home of her great-great grandfather, located in St. Jean-Saverne, France in the summer of 2002. She had also spent three summers studying French in the province of Quebec. In addition to her affiliation with the AFB, Kathryn is also a member of the American Association of Teachers of French.

Alicia Tuyn Treasurer
Alicia E. Tuyn is Senior Department Administrator for Cancer Prevention and Population Sciences at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. She has extensive experience in nonprofit management and budgeting in the fields of education, health, human services and the arts. Prior to joining Roswell Park in April 2004, Ms. Tuyn spent 14 years in administrative positions with a home health and social services agency with offices in Westchester and Suffolk Counties, and the Bronx, New York. She holds an MBA from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Ms. Tuyn is member of the Society of Research Administrators International and the New York City Ballet Guild. She is a certified Pilates instructor who teaches at Body One Studios in Williamsville. Ms. Tuyn is of French descent on her mother's side (maiden name, Duquette) and has been a member of the Alliance Française de Buffalo since 2005.

Nancy Burns Secretary
Nancy has been a French teacher for 25 years, the past 21 at Orchard Park High School, Orchard Park, NY. Prior to this, she taught at Nardin Academy, Buffalo, NY, and at schools in Wisconsin and New Jersey. She is an advisor for the Societe Honoraire de Francais/National French Honor Society at Orchard Park. She has taught all levels of French in her career from elementary to college level. She is a member of Pi Delta Phi, National Honor Society and AATF (American Association of Teachers of French). She has served as a member of the planning committe for the AATF’s La Semaine du Francais/National French Week since 1998. She received a BA in Modern Foreign Languages from St. Norbert College, DePere, WI, and a MA from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, NJ. Nancy also studied in a doctoral program in French at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI. For the Alliance Française she has in the past served on the Nominating Committee and brings her students to participate in its cultural events. Nancy has traveled to Quebec, Canada and Paris, France to pursue her study of French.



Doris Hill
Doris Hill is a lifetime Buffalo resident where she and her husband, John, have a blended family of 8 children. She hold a PhD in Counseling Psychology and enjoys retirement by visiting France each year. She takes French lessons through the AFB, participates in the Club de Lecture, attends the Thursday morning Group de Conversation and many of the events sponsored by the Alliance. She has been a Board member for 2 years. Her hobbies are traveling and studying French and the French.

Janine Joseph
Janine Joseph is a resident of Buffalo and a Vice President at M&T Bank. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and French from Canisius College and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Rochester. As an undergraduate student at Canisius, Janine spent a month living with a family in Meudon, France, teaching English to children. Janine is a member of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra volunteer drivers program, a past board member at the Buffalo Arts Studio, and a former volunteer at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. In her spare time, Janine enjoys reading, playing the violin and running.

Sylvester (Sy) Ledoux
Sy is a Kenmore native who has been a true francophile throughout his lifetime. Through his obligations with his career, and just for pleasure, Sy has had many occasions to do extensive travel throughout Europe. He enjoyed all the time spent in France, particularly the areas of Provence and Camargue. He has been a long time member of the Alliance Française de Buffalo.

Peggy Ott
Peggy taught French in West Seneca East and West High Schools for 33 years, after earning her BS in Secondary French at Buffalo State College, and her MA in Linguistics from the University of Buffalo. She launched her retirement by moving to France in 2003, and lived in the village of St.-Jean de Cole in the Dordogne for 4 ½ years.
After returning to the USA in 2007, Peggy lives in Cheektowaga. She enjoys playing Bridge and Mah-jong, doing needlework, and attending French conversation groups. She has been a member of the Alliance Française for one year.



Colette Jowdy
A native of Lebanon, mother of four, Colette has been the administrative assistant of the Alliance Française de Buffalo since 1999. She takes care of most mailing, answers phones calls related to the school, and is responsible of the annual Certificate of Excellence. She is married to Kamal Jowdy, the owner of Delft Printing.
