The Nomination Committee of the Alliance Française of Buffalo announces the nomination of the following four candidates for the Board of Directors. The General Election will be held on

There will be a short meeting to review the past year and meet our newly elected Board members. While you can see below (and on the ballot you received) that there are 4 people running for 4 Board positions, it is still very important to return your ballot. Our Constitution mandates election by ballot and every vote is important.
For your informatop, board members remaining in place are Patricia Schiavone, Sophie Feal, Mary Grace Duggan, Doris Hill, Shelley Meyer, Holly Franz, Alicia Tuyn, Stephan Gamard and Sylvester Ledoux II.

Bring your ballot to the meeting. We will have some extra ballots available at the meeting in case you have misplaced the one mailed to you. Nancy Burns
(2 year term)

Nancy has been a French teacher for 25 years, the past 21 at Orchard Park High School, Orchard Park, NY. Prior to this, she taught at Nardin Academy, Buffalo, NY, and at schools in Wisconsin and New Jersey. She is an advisor for the Societe Honoraire de Francais/National French Honor Society at Orchard Park. She has taught all levels of French in her career from elementary to college level. She is a member of Pi Delta Phi, National Honor Society and AATF (American Association of Teachers of French). She has served as a member of the planning committe for the AATF’s La Semaine du Francais/National French Week since 1998. She received a BA in Modern Foreign Languages from St. Norbert College, DePere, WI, and a MA from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, NJ. Nancy also studied in a doctoral program in French at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI. For the Alliance Française she has in the past served on the Nominating Committee and brings her students to participate in its cultural events. Nancy has traveled to Quebec, Canada and Paris, France to pursue her study of French.
Kathryn Missert
(2 year term)

Kathryn is a Buffalo native who received her BA degree in French at Buffalo State College. She has been an elementary French teacher (K-8) in Buffalo since 1987. Interest in her own French heritage brought her to the ancestral home of her great-great grandfather, located in St. Jean-Saverne, France in the summer of 2002. She had also spent three summers studying French in the province of Quebec. In addition to her affiliation with the AFB, Kathryn is also a member of the American Association of Teachers of French.
Lavinia Corina Ciungu
(2 year term)

Lavinia is a Romanian citizen who has been living in Buffalo for 4 years, pursuing a PhD in Cryptology at SUNY at Buffalo. As a graduate student and faculty of UB, she has been teaching various recitation classes as well as lectures. Lavinia has also been involved in the Gifted Math Program. She participates in the “Groupes de Conversations” of the Alliance Française, and audits French courses at the university. She is interested in foreign languages in general, as she is also attending Chinese and German courses at UB. She enjoys reading French novels, and other hobbies include playing the piano.
Evelyne Harris
(2 year term)

Evelyne is a testing analyst for the Centralized Compliance division at M&T Bank. She has 40 years of banking experience. Evelyne was born in Paris, France and moved to the United States in the early 1960's. She is a longtime member of the Alliance Francaise de Buffalo. She lives in Grand Island with her husband and is the mother of two sons. One son is attending Kent School in Connecticut, and the other lives in Washington State with his wife and daughter.
