Excellence in French Studies Awards 2011

In the Spring 2011, Western New York area high school French students participated in the annual Excellence in French Studies Award held at SUNY at Buffalo on Saturday, March 26th. The competition attracted 16 students from across Western New York who completed a rigorous dictée excerpt from Camus’ La Peste. The competition is co-sponsored and funded by the SUNY at Buffalo Melodia Jones Fund Chair. Cash prizes of $750 were awarded to:

First prize
Ravi Wood, City Honors School at Fosdick Masten Park

Second prize
Carol Quigley, Clarence High School

Third prize
Sameer Singhal, Williamsville East High School
Alec Hohensee, Wilson High School

On May 13th, the winners of our Excellence in High School French Studies Competition were honored at the commencement ceremony of UB's Department of Romance Languages and Literatures.

Starting in 2004, the Alliance Française de Buffalo (AFB) has been offering an Excellence in French Studies Award to the three best high-school French students. This program is a partnership between the Alliance Française de Buffalo and the Melodia Jones Fund of the University at Buffalo.
